Stormwater ponds are artificial structures that are critical components of stormwater management systems in many Canadian cities. They serve to prevent flooding of urban areas during excess rainfall. Stormwater ponds also contribute to environmental health by allowing the settlement of dirt and solids from stormwater to the bottom of the pond. As a result, the sediments of stormwater ponds can become enriched with potentially harmful contaminants. The health risks posed to anglers by contact with stormwater and sediments and consumption of fish from stormwater ponds are not well characterized. The City of Lacombe (Alberta) is a municipality with two stormwater ponds stocked with sterile fish for angling. Alberta Health collected water, sediment and fish from these two ponds over two seasons (fall 2010 and spring 2011) and analyzed the samples for a suite of contaminants. Establishes a clear and consistent wastewater and runoff management approach in the Industrial Heartland Designated Industrial Zone (IH-DIZ). The program outlines monitoring and reporting requirements to be met by industrial facilities and identifies additional monitoring programs to be established within the IH-DIZ reach of the North Saskatchewan River. Data collected from the monitoring activities will be used to inform load-based management within the zone and will also help to verify the overall success of the program in achieving the environmental objective to maintain or improve water quality.

Water erosion is a concern because it reduces soil quality by removing soil particles and nutrients, and reduces water quality if these particles are carried into nearby water bodies. The map uses five classes to describe the water erosion risk on bare, unprotected mineral soil: negligible, low, moderate, high and severe.This resource was created using ArcGIS, originally published as a print map in 1993 .
